The fundraising campaign is operated by Carrefour, while the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger coordinated the activities of partner NGOs A\u00e7\u00e3o da Cidadania, C\u00e1ritas, Diaconia and Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Amaz\u00f4nia Sustent\u00e1vel (FAS).<\/p>\n<p>Most of the cards were delivered directly to the families, enabling the direct purchase in local retailers of basic food items chosen by the beneficiaries. For more isolated communities in the state of Amazonas, FAS used the cards to compose food baskets which were then delivered to families. The WFP Centre of Excellence will now start the second distribution phase with 8,898 cards.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Find out more about what this campaign meant for the beneficiaries:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For this campaign, A\u00e7\u00e3o da Cidadania distributed 700 cards in neighbourhoods of S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds and Pa\u00e7o do Lumiar, in the state of Maranh\u00e3o. Ant\u00f4nia C\u00e9lia, 44, who lives in the Vila Vit\u00f3ria community in S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds, was one of the beneficiaries. &#8220;We are grateful to receive this R$ 100 food voucher. In Belo Horizonte, the NGO delivered the cards to families of the P\u00e1tria Livre occupation and residents of the Pedreira Padro Lopes community, in addition recycling workers from Belo Horizonte. &#8220;We are out of work because we are not able to collect materials. This is a very difficult time for us and the vouchers will bring joy to many families&#8221;, said Silvana Assis, president of the Barreiro Region Recycling Cooperative .<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16748\" src=\"https:\/\/centrodeexcelencia.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Silvana.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Silvana Assis, president of the recycling cooperative, received one of the food vouchers<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16749\" src=\"https:\/\/centrodeexcelencia.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Caritas-Manaus.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1032\" height=\"581\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>In Manaus, C\u00e1ritas distributed 300 food vouchers from the Compra Solid\u00e1ria Campaign.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Diaconia distributed 1,100 cards in rural and urban areas of Cear\u00e1, Para\u00edba and Pernambuco, through partnerships with community groups and local churches. According to the NGO, the card format enabled families to choose what and where to buy. &#8220;I was able to buy other things that are not in the basic food basket, for example, tapioca flour, crackers, meat, fruits, vegetables. We were able to choose and buy a little bit of each&#8221;, said Silva Rangel, 56, who received one of the cards. She is unemployed and lives with four other family members in Recife (Pernambuco).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16750\" src=\"https:\/\/centrodeexcelencia.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Diaconia_Alto-da-Bondade-Olinda.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"605\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Food vouchers being delivered in the Alto da Bondade neighbourhood, in Olinda, Pernambuco.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16751\" src=\"https:\/\/centrodeexcelencia.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Diaconia_Centro-Social-Betesda-Fortaleza.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Maria Concei\u00e7\u00e3o da Silva, 35, lives in the Autran Nunes neighbourhood, in Fortaleza, Cear\u00e1.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Finally, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Amazonia Sustent\u00e1vel (FAS) received 700 cards and used them to compose food baskets that were distributed to communities in remote areas of the state of Amazonas. At the Canum\u00e3 RDS reserve, FAS donated food baskets to 455 families, while at the Mau\u00e9s state florest 813 families were assisted.\u00a0 The delivery process took several days and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WFPBrasil\/status\/1294359953269043205\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">included boat trips<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16752\" src=\"https:\/\/centrodeexcelencia.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/FAS-Manaus-compra.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"590\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>FAS employee purchasing food items to compose baskets donated in Amazonas.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So far, the campaign has raised more than R$ 1.6 million reais, which was doubled by Carrefour&#8217;s contribution.
