The event was organized by the WFP\u00a0Centre\u00a0of Excellence, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, through the General Coordination of Food and Nutrition of the Department of Health Promotion, and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), and was part of the actions around the Childhood Morbid Obesity Awareness Day, on June 3<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">rd<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. The\u00a0event\u00a0was broadcast\u00a0live\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0WFP Centre of Excellence\u2019s\u00a0YouTube\u00a0channel\u00a0and has\u00a0already had\u00a0about a thousand views. The event also marked the pre-launch of the Policy Brief \u201cChild Obesity \u2013 strategies for prevention and care (at the local level)\u201d,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/centrodeexcelencia.org.br\/en\/publicacao-9\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">which can be downloaded here<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:160}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">During the opening of the event, Daniel Balaban, WFP Representative in Brazil and Director of the\u00a0Centre\u00a0of Excellence against Hunger,\u00a0highlighted some of the alarming data on childhood obesity: it is estimated that 42 million children are overweight in the world, in a proportion 1 in 5 children. He also spoke about the nutritional deficit that is often accompanied by obesity. Juliana Resende, Director of the Department of Health Promotion of the Secretariat of Primary Health Care of the Ministry of Health\u00a0in\u00a0Brazil, and Pl\u00ednio Pereira, Project Analyst at the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), also participated in the opening\u00a0section.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:160}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As part of the programme,\u00a0Albaneide\u00a0Peixinho, Project Coordinator at the WFP\u00a0Centre\u00a0of Excellence, presented the publication \u201cChild Obesity \u2013 strategies for prevention and care (at the local level)\u201d, which\u00a0compiles\u00a0information to contribute to the development of strategies by\u00a0local authorities\u00a0(municipal and state managers) for the prevention and care of childhood obesity. The document is made up of six objective questions and answers to facilitate understanding of such an important topic that can change the reality of the municipality. Ricardo Brand\u00e3o, Coordinator of the Active Life Laboratory and Coordinator of the Postgraduate Programme\u00a0in Exercise and Sport Sciences at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, spoke about the reasons for investing in Healthy Cities to prevent and stop the spread of\u00a0childhood\u00a0obesity. Then, Gisele Bortolini, General Coordinator of Food and Nutrition at the Ministry of Health, spoke about the actions to\u00a0promote\u00a0adequate and\u00a0healthy\u00a0eating in the context of Healthy Cities.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:160}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">After that, Dalila\u00a0Tusset, a social policy analyst working at the Ministry of Health, spoke about actions to promote physical activities\u00a0in the context of Healthy Cities.
