The WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger Brazil, the Food and Nutrition Division at the Brazilian Ministry of Health (CGAN\/MS) and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ABC\/MRE) participated in the 2022 Steering Committee meeting, on April 14, to discuss and approve the Nurture the Future project activities plan for the year. The Committee is responsible for discussing and approving the project’s strategic plan, approving annual activity plans, monitoring project implementation and, when appropriate, suggesting changes to be made, and approving its narrative and financial reports.<\/p>\n

For 2022, the Nurture the Future project will continue to produce evidence and exchange successful experiences between Brazil, Colombia and Peru to face the multiple burden of malnutrition in school-aged children. Among the main outputs planned for this year are the preparation of technical documents on the synergistic factors of the multiple burden of malnutrition (including malnutrition, nutritional deficiencies, overweight and obesity) and on strategies to reduce sugar and salt consumption, based on strong scientific evidence. These foreseen outputs will also include a survey of national and international experiences on the topics, as well as participation in events to disseminate the results of the initiative. By promoting this South-South dialogue and exchange we intend to support the construction and strengthening of nutrition policies and programmes in partner countries.<\/p>\n

As the initiative enters its final phase this year, the documents prepared on the various themes developed over the last few years of implementation can also be used as content for courses and trainings. We also expect to create communication materials based on the content and recommendations produced by the project team to extend its reach to more health professionals and public managers on the field.<\/p>\n

The Nurture the Future project emphasizes that a set of measures and multisectoral programmes are needed to improve the nutritional and food profile of populations and the only way forward is through joint efforts.
