Between May 22nd and 24th, the Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, Daniel Balaban, and the WFP Director of Partnerships, Stanlake Samkange, were in Teresina, Piau\u00ed, to participate in the agenda of t<\/span>he 3rd meeting of the Task Force\u00a0to develop the\u00a0G20 Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, <\/span>which included meetings and a technical visit to successful family farming production experiences in the region.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting, promoted by the Ministry of Social Development and Fight Against Hunger (MDS)\u00a0 and the Government of Piau\u00ed, in partnership with the Brazilian Presidency’s General Secretariat, brought together around 50 international delegations to discuss the final terms of the Global Alliance, which is scheduled to be launched in November, at the G20 Leaders’ Summit, in Rio de Janeiro, and which will be attended by the leaders of the 19 member countries, the African Union and the European Union.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a very important moment for the concrete definition of actions. I am sure that with the union between countries, international organizations, development agencies, among other key actors, we will be able to establish measures that lead countries to eradicate hunger and poverty by 2030\u201d, said Balaban.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After the technical discussion, the agenda of the 3rd meeting ended with a field visit to learn about programs to combat hunger in Piau\u00ed. The first visit took place in the family farming community garden in the Ave Verde village, on the outskirts of Teresina. Afterwards, the delegation visited the Quitanda da Agricultura Familiar, in Espa\u00e7o Rosa dos Ventos, at the Federal University of Piau\u00ed (UFPI), where the delegates were able to learn about products and talk to local traders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBrazil, with its years of experience in public policies to promote family farming, has a lot to show and share with other countries. Being able to visit the locations of these good practices and see how these programs transform people’s lives daily is very inspiring and shows us that a future with no hunger and poverty is possible\u201d, added the director of the Centre of Excellence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Global Alliance<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Launched by Brazil’s G20 presidency, the proposal for a Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty aims to establish a practical mechanism for mobilizing financial resources and knowledge for the implementation and expansion of actions, policies and programs to combat hunger, reducing poverty and ensuring food and nutritional security. To achieve this objective, a Task Force was established, under the coordination of the MDS, which brings together members of the G20, guest countries and international organizations, including the Centre of Excellence against Hunger of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Brazil.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
