The workshop aimed to guide the construction of public policies that promote sustainable and resilient food systems in the face of climate change.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The proposal is based on the principles of the Human Right to Adequate Food and Climate Justice, with a focus on adaptation and mitigation of environmental impacts on the food system.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">During the two-day workshop, the preliminary version of the Framework was discussed among the participants in a participatory debate. The final document will outline integrated actions to guarantee food and nutrition security, taking into account the impacts of the climate crisis.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It will also include ways to reduce social inequalities in the context of food systems and climate issues, based on the country&#8217;s different ethnic, racial and gender groups. The Centre of Excellence reinforced the importance of South-South cooperation in promoting more resilient and just food systems.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The construction of the Reference Framework, which began in 2024, is an initiative of the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger (MDS), through the National Secretariat for Food and Nutrition Security (Sesan), in partnership with the Observatory of Food Security and Nutrition Policies (Opsan) of the University of Brasilia (UnB) and the Climate and Society Institute. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Convergence initiative <\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 2024, the Centre of Excellence supported the Convergence Initiative Workshop in partnership with the Brazilian government and the UN Food Systems Coordination Centre, bringing together the important participation of civil society, representatives of the Brazilian government and other guests.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The event made it possible to endorse national efforts to promote alignment between the agendas for transforming food systems and climate action, to support the simultaneous fulfilment of the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At the end of the workshop, participants drew up recommendations to guide future actions to integrate the food systems and climate agendas, reinforcing Brazil&#8217;s leadership in this initiative. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">After incorporating the suggestions made during the workshop, the document will go through a public consultation, which is scheduled for May.
