Sustainable funding for school meals programmes is the theme of the side event taking place on 2 July in Seville (Spain) during the 4th UN Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4). During the event, successful experiences from countries such as Brazil, Mozambique and the Dominican Republic will be presented.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the highlights of the programme is the National School Feeding Programme (PNAE), an international benchmark in integrated nutrition, education and rural development policies. The activity will also feature presentations by representatives of the Sustainable Finance Initiative (SFI), the Sustainable School Feeding Network (RAES) and partners from the Global School Meals Coalition.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Entitled \u201cInvesting in the Future: Financing School Feeding as a Pillar for Ending Hunger, Resilience and Development\u201d, the event is organised by the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil together with the National Education Development Fund (FNDE) and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event will bring together representatives of governments, multilateral organisations and cooperation networks who will have the opportunity to learn more about the PNAE financing system and also the role of South-South cooperation and regional partnerships in promoting effective, long-term solutions to guarantee the right to food and quality education for millions of children.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the panellists are ABC ambassador Ruy Pereira, who will talk about Brazil’s global cooperation for school feeding programmes and sustainable development; and Kevin Watkins, senior advisor to the Sustainable Financing Initiative (SFI) of the School Feeding Coalition, who will give examples of financing mechanisms for school feeding programmes. <\/span><\/p>\n

The director of the FNDE, Anderson Sampaio Santos, will speak on the panel about country perspectives on national funding for school feeding. And the coordinator of the Sustainable School Feeding Network (RAES), Najla Veloso, will present a summary of her work in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event will be moderated by Let\u00edcia do Valle, Programme Officer at the WFP Centre of Excellence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
