On 3 January, Episode 3 of the reality show Escola de Sabores will be aired on TV Band, a production that highlights school cooks, nutritionists and school food managers from traditional quilombola, indigenous and riverine communities.<\/p>\n

The initiative is the result of a partnership between the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE), the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil. The programme airs on Saturdays at 12 noon on Band; at 9 p.m. on the Sabor & Arte channel; and is rebroadcast on Sundays at 8 p.m. on Terraviva.<\/p>\n

In Episode 2, the participants from the quilombola team faced their first challenge, which resulted in the elimination of three of the five representatives: Maria de Lourdes Sena, Duciv\u00e2nia Ribeiro, and Juscilene Alves dos Santos left the competition, but celebrated the opportunity to showcase their culture and the feminine strength of the quilombola communities.<\/p>\n

The winner of the challenge was the dish Segredos da Terra (Secrets of the Earth), a pumpkin escondidinho with pot roast and salad, made by Ana Paula Gon\u00e7alves, from the Quilombola Community of Mina\u00e7u (GO). The other winner was the dish by Tamires Mendes Alves, from the Quilombola Community of S\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o do Sul (RS), who presented quibebe with cabuti\u00e1 pumpkin, a recipe from her grandmother. The purpose of the reality show goes beyond culinary challenges. Escola de Sabores values the professionals who prepare school meals, reinforcing the connection between food, inclusion, health and education for students. In addition, the programme highlights the food culture of traditional communities, allowing ancestral ingredients and knowledge, such as cassava, pumpkin, pequi and chestnuts, to gain national visibility.<\/p>\n
