Episode 5 of the reality show School of Flavors set a challenge for the finalists, who were school cooks from quilombola, riverine, and indigenous communities: to create a recipe from S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe and one from Honduras, using a Brazilian touch to build bridges between the food cultures of Latin America, Africa, and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

By lottery, three cooks prepared a typical school meal from each country. Alison, from the Indigenous Community of S\u00e3o Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM); Antonia, from the Ribeirinha de Jord\u00e3o community (AC); and Ana Paula, from the Quilombola Community of Mina\u00e7u (GO), prepared the S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe dish called So\u00f4 de Banana P\u00e3o, a broth prepared with palm oil (dend\u00ea oil), smoked fish from S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe, cassava, and green leaves.<\/p>\n

Genilma, from the Ribeirinha de Soure community (PA); Francieli, from the Indigenous Community of Aracruz (ES); and Tamires, from the Quilombola Community of S\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o do Sul (RS), prepared Sopa de Frijoles, a typical soup made with beans from Honduras.<\/p>\n

The winning So\u00f4 de Banana P\u00e3o was made by riverside cook Ant\u00f4nia and evaluated by guest judge Youdmila Vila Nova, a nutritionist with the National School Food and Health Program (PNASE) of S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe, as the dish most faithful to what is served to children in the country.<\/p>\n

The most authentic bean soup was made by Tamires, a quilombola school cook, who earned praise from Alexandra Bigit, a nutritionist with Honduras’ National School Feeding Program (PNAE) and one of the guest judges.<\/p>\n

One contestant was eliminated: Francieli, a cook from the Indigenous Community of Aracruz (ES).<\/p>\n

Episode 6<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next episode of the reality show Escolas de Sabores will air on January 30 at 12 p.m. on TV Band and will feature the challenge of transforming fruits and vegetables into healthy desserts without using sugar.<\/p>\n

The reality show Escola de Sabores is the result of a partnership between the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE), the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), and the WFP Center of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, and is broadcast by TV Band on Saturdays at 12 p.m.<\/p>\n
