\"\"<\/a>Ensuring that children and teenagers continue to have access to adequate food even outside term time is the central aim of the \u201cFome N\u00e3o Tira F\u00e9rias\u201d (\u201cHunger Doesn\u2019t Go on Vacation\u201d) campaign, an initiative by the Fome de Tudo Institute in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP\/UN).<\/p>\n

The campaign aims to mobilise resources and partners to support vulnerable families during school holidays and breaks, a period when many children no longer have access to the meals provided in state schools. In Brazil, approximately 40 million pupils benefit from school meals. For many of these children, this is one of the main nutritious meals of the day.<\/p>\n

However, the food safety net linked to the school calendar operates for around 200 school days a year. This means that there are approximately 165 days \u2013 taking into account holidays, school breaks and weekends \u2013 when many vulnerable children are left without this regular support.<\/p>\n

This gap becomes even more critical given the social context in Brazil. According to data from IPEA\/UNICEF 2025, around 25 million children and adolescents live in poverty in the country. In low-income families, the suspension of school meals can mean a reduction in both the quantity and quality of food consumed, with a direct impact on health, development, learning and well-being.<\/p>\n

Mobilisation<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u201cHunger Doesn\u2019t Go on Vacation\u2019 campaign was created to address this gap in food security. The aim is to bring together civil society, local governments, schools, community organisations, and particularly the private sector, to ensure that the most vulnerable children have access to food even when schools are closed.<\/p>\n

The strategy involves identifying priority areas based on public data on vulnerability indicators and information on food insecurity. Based on this mapping, local authorities, schools and families are selected with the support of local education and social care networks.<\/p>\n

Support for families will be provided through rechargeable food vouchers issued to them, which allow them to purchase food directly from accredited outlets. The model combines direct transfers, family autonomy and control over the use of funds. The vouchers are intended exclusively for the purchase of food, with mechanisms for traceability, monitoring and accountability.<\/p>\n

As well as ensuring immediate access to food, the initiative also helps to boost the local economy, as the funds can circulate in markets and shops close to the communities being supported.<\/p>\n

Private sector<\/strong><\/p>\n

The involvement of private companies and institutions is one of the pillars of the campaign. Corporate participation is essential to scaling up the initiative, enabling the reloading of the cards and allowing more children to be supported during periods of greatest food insecurity.<\/p>\n

By joining the campaign, companies can contribute directly to the funding of food vouchers, support specific regions, sponsor schools or local authorities, engage employees in internal mobilisation initiatives, or develop strategic partnerships aligned with their social responsibility, sustainability and impact agendas.<\/p>\n

More than just a one-off donation, the campaign offers the private sector a concrete opportunity to invest in social protection, children\u2019s welfare and food security, with measurable impact and transparency mechanisms. For companies committed to ESG agendas and sustainable development, the initiative enables them to transform institutional commitment into direct benefits for families and communities.<\/p>\n

About the initiative<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u2018Hunger Doesn\u2019t Take a Holiday\u2019 campaign is an initiative by the Fome de Tudo Institute in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The WFP is the world\u2019s largest humanitarian agency, winner of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize, and works globally to combat hunger and promote food and nutritional security.<\/p>\n

The Fome de Tudo Institute is a Brazilian organisation dedicated to tackling food insecurity through social mobilisation, technology, strategic partnerships and scalable solutions.<\/p>\n
