Digital bulletin features article about the work of the WFP Centre of Excellence in Africa

The 11th issue of the bulletin published by the World Food Programme (WFP) Centre of Excellence against Hunger and Malnutrition in Côte D’Ivoire (CERFAM) features an article that highlights the work of the Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil. The article describes the main lessons learned and recommendations for enhancing food security and nutrition in Africa as a result of technical supported offered to over 40 countries throughout the past 10 years.

“Since its creation, the WFP Centre of Excellence in Brazil has supported 43 countries and the African Union in their advocacy and development of their food security and nutrition programmes, particularly around school feeding”, states the article. The text also mentions the inclusion of home-grown school feeding programmes in the African Union’s Continental Education Strategy for 2016-2025 and the support for the creation of CERFAM.

The cases of Benin, Burundi and Togo are also mentioned, as well as the benefits of South-South Cooperation efforts to fight hunger. The CERFAM bulletin also features articles on the collaboration with other UN agencies such as FAO and IFAD, in addition to documentation and school feeding strategies. The document can be accessed here.

The collaboration between the Center of Excellence in Brazil with the other WFP centres of excellence (CERFAM and the Center of Excellence in China) plays an important role in information sharing and strengthening South-South Cooperation activities to achieve zero hunger.
