From 10 to 14 August, Brasília hosted the Regional Exchange of SUN countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, bringing together government representatives from eight countries to share experiences on governance, nutrition, food security and innovation.
Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) is a global movement established in 2010 to mobilise governments and various institutions around improving nutrition, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life (from birth to two years of age).
During the event, the WFP Centre of Excellence on Hunger in Brazil presented the experience of the School Meals Coalition, an international initiative aimed at ensuring that all countries worldwide have public policies in place to provide food for children in schools.
Organised by the General Coordination for Food and Nutritional Security (CGSAN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event also included representatives from the Ministries of Social Development, Health, Agrarian Development and Family Farming, and the Environment and Climate Change, as well as the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE), the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), the National Council for Food and Nutritional Security (CONSEA) and the Interministerial Chamber for Food and Nutritional Security (CAISAN).
The programme also included technical visits and discussions on public policies aimed at eradicating hunger, funding for nutrition and strengthening sustainable food systems.
