©WFP/Ana Mascarenhas

The WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil will host the Technical Workshop on Sustainable Food Systems: Integrating School Feeding, Biodiversity and Traditional Knowledge on 23 and 24 September 2026.
The event will take place in a hybrid format at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), with a live stream on the Centre of Excellence’s YouTube channel (@wfpbrasil).
The initiative, which is supported by the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE) and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), forms part of the programme for the 3rd Conference on School Meals, Innovation and Sustainability, organised by UNIRIO’s Faculty of Nutrition.
Over the course of the two days, experts and participants will discuss the relationship between school meals and sustainable food systems, international experiences focused on sustainability in the sector, the role of fish in school meals, and the contributions of traditional peoples and communities to biodiversity and food security.
The event will be conducted in Portuguese, with simultaneous interpretation into English, French and Spanish, broadening the reach of the discussions to audiences from different countries.
