A global online event on Thursday, November 4, will mark the 10 years of the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger Brazil and discuss the importance of South-South Cooperation in the fight against hunger. The event will also bring together the WFP Centre of Excellence for Rural Transformation China, the WFP Regional Centre of Excellence against Hunger and Malnutrition in Côte D’Ivoire (CERFAM) and representatives from the WFP Programme Division. Other guests include WFP country and regional offices, in addition to partner country officials.
The Centres of Excellence of Brazil, China and Côte D’Ivoire will showcase their history and highlight results and contributions in promoting food security policies. Their presentations will be followed by a brief discussion on the key lessons learned in facilitating South-South and Triangular Cooperation throughout the years. Partner governments will also present an overview of their success stories in developing policies for school feeding, agricultural development and harvest-loss management.
In addition, there will be presentations on how those programmes influenced country policy and how the support received from the Centres of Excellence shaped their trajectory. The last section will include a brief discussion on the role the WFP Centres of Excellence could play in brokering South-South and Triangular Cooperation in the coming decade to accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda.
The event will be broadcast via Zoom from 8am (Brasília time). Translations to English and Portuguese will be available, thanks to the support of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency. To access the event please click here.
