On December 3, at Fiocruz Brasília, authorities, Brazilian and international researchers, and multilateral organizations will participate in the launch of The Lancet Series – Ultra-Processed Foods and Human Health. The event will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the Center of Excellence against Hunger @WFPBrasil, from 9h to 12h (Brasilia time). The event will be attended by Rita Lobo, chef and high-level supporter of the WFP in Brazil, who will give a presentation and moderate the debates in the last panel.
On December 5, there will be another launch at the USP School of Public Health in São Paulo (in person and open to the public).
Produced by 43 authors from various countries, The Lancet Series provides robust evidence on how ultra-processed foods have restructured the world’s diet, contributing to an increase in obesity, type 2 diabetes, depression, cardiovascular disease, and other health conditions.
The articles also propose a global public policy agenda based on advertising regulation, labeling, taxation, and expanding access to healthy foods.
The event in Brasilia is organized by Nupens/USP (Center for Epidemiological Research in Nutrition and Health at the University of São Paulo), Fiocruz Brasília, PAHO/WHO, the WFP Center of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, and the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
