The municipality of Campina Grande (PB) hosted the Northeast stage of the Regional Seminar – Training and Valuing Those Who Feed Brazil on the 9 and 10 June. Promoted by the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE), the event brought together school cooks, nutritionists and authorities for two days of training and an exchange of experiences between professionals who make school meals happen daily across the country.
An institutional partner of the FNDE, the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil reinforces the importance of actions that highlight the essential role of school cooks and nutritionists in the school environment.
Valuing these professionals is also the focus of the reality TV show Vida de Merendeira, a project carried out in partnership between the WFP Centre of Excellence, FNDE and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), the new edition of which will be launched soon.
“Valuing cooks and nutritionists means recognising the essential role these professionals play in promoting health, keeping students in school and building a more equitable future. The Centre of Excellence is proud to be part of initiatives that strengthen and recognise this work,” says Sineide Neres, nutritionist at the Centre of Excellence and coordinator of Vida de Merendeira.
The Regional Seminar initiative is part of the Grade 10 School Feeding Project, promoted by the FNDE in partnership with Itaipu Binacional, IFSULDEMINAS and the Fadema Foundation.
