The WFP Centre of Excellence received representatives from the Federal University of São Paulo as part of its strategy to strengthen the area of research and knowledge management. In addition to contributing to ongoing research at the University, the WFP Centre discussed the development of joint research initiatives in cooperation for development.
Professor Osmany Porto, coordinator of the Laboratory of International Public Policies of the University’s School of Politics, Economics and Business, and the student and researcher of the laboratory Luana Dratovsky visited the Centre of Excellence on 23 May to collect data for undergoing scientific research in the lab. They also conducted a series of interviews with the Programme team and the Centre’s directors on school feeding initiatives in Africa and Timor-Leste.
During the visit, the LABOPPI coordinator and the Centre of Excellence’s Programme team discussed the development of joint research initiatives and the organization of events linking the academy to international practice on issues of development, transfer and dissemination of public policies, and South-South cooperation.
The meeting took place after the participation of the Centre of Excellence at the II International Conference on Public Policy and International Cooperation in Sao Paulo, where two articles on the Centre’s work in South-South cooperation were presented. The Centre also participated in the First Workshop on Public Policy and International Cooperation – Dialogues between Academia and Practitioners, held on 21 May in Brasilia. The workshop was organized by LABOPPI and the National School of Public Administration.
The directors of the Centre of Excellence, Daniel Balaban and Peter Rodrigues, recorded video messages for the LABOPPI researchers on the work of the WFP and the Centre of Excellence, international cooperation, working in an international humanitarian organization, and the importance of academia for the improvement of cooperation practices
