Food security challenges for the next decade was the theme of a panel discussion attended by Daniel Balaban, director of the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, at the 3rd Food Nutrition and Health Congress, organised by the Postgraduate Programme in Food, Nutrition and Health at the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos – Unisinos, on 24 October, in São Leopoldo, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre.
The event, which has been held since 2023, has as its theme this year ‘Climate Crisis: Impacts on Food Production, Nutrition and Health’.
Aimed at students, teachers and professionals in the field, the Congress intends to promote technical and scientific discussions on the subject, with a view to disseminating relevant and up-to-date knowledge among professionals in the labour market and academia.
The event lasts two days (24 and 25 October) and features courses, panels, scientific lectures, presentations of papers and an exhibition by supporters.
“Our food systems need to be more sustainable, inclusive and resilient to climate change to ensure food security in the coming decades. Universities play an essential role in this process by training leaders, producing knowledge and connecting science to public policy. Dialogue between academia, governments and the United Nations is essential if we are to eradicate hunger in a lasting way,” said Daniel Balaban.
At the end of the event, the best papers will be published in the Technical Journal of Innovation and Sustainability in Food, Nutrition and Health, from PPGANS/UNISINOS.
