
The role of international university cooperation in food security, poverty eradication and peace promotion is one of the topics to be discussed at the 15th International Seminar of the Brazilian Universities International Cooperation Group (GCUB), to be held on 3 October in Recife, with the participation of Daniel Balaban, Director of the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil.
The event will bring together experts and academics from various countries. Sharing the table with Daniel Balaban will be Halima Ouanada, president of the Tunisian Association for Enlightenment Studies, and Ondina León, director of the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education. The moderator will be Raiane Patrícia Assumpção, dean of the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP).
In his participation, Daniel Balaban will highlight the importance of bringing academic knowledge closer to concrete solutions in the fight against hunger. “University cooperation is essential to transform science into effective public policies. By bringing research, innovation and training to this debate, we create more solid conditions to guarantee the human right to food”, he says.
During the debate, the other speakers will contribute their views on the role of academia in social transformation. Halima Ouanada, from Tunisia, will discuss academic cooperation to pave the way for innovative and inclusive solutions to food insecurity. Ondina León, from Cuba, will contribute her views on partnerships in the development of public policies that combine science and social justice.
