On 29 May, the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil received France’s Special Envoy for Nutrition and Secretary General of the Nutrition for Growth Summit (N4G), Brieuc Pont, to discuss joint work aimed at improving nutrition indicators in countries.
The French Embassy’s global affairs counsellor, Nastassja Hoffet, and the Regional Agricultural Counsellor for Argentina, Brazil and Chile, Pierre-Adrien Romon, also took part.
“We came to learn more about the work carried out by the Centre of Excellence and to present our plans for improving nutrition indicators,” said Pont.
The director of the Centre of Excellence, Daniel Balaban, stressed that great results are achieved through technical cooperation with the countries of the Global South, promoted jointly with the Brazilian government.
“These are strategic actions, such as the implementation and expansion of school meals programmes and policies to strengthen family farming, which bring long-term results, guaranteeing food and nutritional security in countries that need it most,” he said.
During the meeting, topics such as the intersectoral nature of nutrition policies, the challenges of sustainable financing and synergies with global agendas such as COP30, the G20 and the School Feeding Coalition, of which France and Brazil are co-chairs, were discussed.
