Partners of the Nurture the Future project will take part in the XXVII Brazilian Nutrition Congress – CONBRAN, which will take place in Maceió, Alagoas, on 4-7 October. Considered the largest nutrition event in Brazil, CONBRAN promotes spaces for relevant discussions on science, professional performance, and new trends within nutrition, which has driven many health, and food and nutrition security policies. Participants representing the project team include experts from the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil as well as technicians from the Ministries of Health of Brazil, Colombia and Peru, which are the partner countries in the project. Representatives from the WFP Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, state health departments and other partners will also be present.
This year, CONBRAN has as its theme “Nutrition in different phases of life: challenges for the promotion of Health and Food and Nutritional Security”. On 6 October, the Nurture the Future project will promote a thematic workshop focused on good practices in food and nutrition in Peru and Colombia, as well as successful experiences found in Minas Gerais, Pernambuco and the Federal District. Also on the same day, the team will host an international seminar on recommendations for the production, supply and consumption of fruits and vegetables. “This is a unique opportunity to share the results of the Nurture the Future project so far and promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences between participating countries and nutrition professionals in Brazil,” said Albaneide Peixinho, project coordinator.
The South-South Cooperation Project to tackle the multiple burden of malnutrition, also known as Nurture the Future, is the result of a partnership between the General Coordination of Food and Nutrition of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency for the exchange of experiences between Brazil, Colombia and Peru. The project has produced publications on the multiple burden of malnutrition and, especially, overweight and obesity in Brazil in cooperating countries (Colombia and Peru), in addition to strengthening knowledge networks and participation in national and international seminars on the subject.
