On Thursday, May 9, at 8 pm, the first episode of the reality show Vida de Merendeira will go live on the Sabor & Arte channel. The program seeks to value the role of the lunch ladies in promoting adequate and healthy eating.
The program is the result of a partnership between the National Education Development Fund (FNDE) and the WFP Centre of Excellence, with the support of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC).
In total, 15 lunch ladies from all regions of Brazil participate, and the candidates need to demonstrate their skills in executing tasty and nutritious recipes that represent the food cultures of their locality.
This year, there is also the participation of representatives from Portuguese-speaking African countries, which allows the exchange of experiences and the recognition of the guidelines of the National School Feeding Program (PNAE) in the context of South-South Cooperation.
“Lunch ladies play a fundamental role in school feeding, not only due to their care in preparing and offering food, but also through the food and nutritional education that takes place in the school environment. In this sense, the reality show recognizes lunch ladies as part of the school community and a key agent in the success of the PNAE”, highlighted the Director of the Centre of Excellence against Hunger, Daniel Balaban.
During the competition, the public will also see testimonials from students, family members, teachers, education professionals, nutritionists, suppliers and producers of public education school meals, as well as excerpts from the participants in their daily lives.
In total there will be eight episodes, shown weekly on Thursdays on the Sabor & Arte channel. Those who missed the program on television will also be able to follow the competition on the Sabor & Arte and WFP Centre of Excellence YouTube channels.
