On Tuesday morning, 25, the Director of the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, Daniel Balaban, received a courtesy visit from the new Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Brazil, Jorge Meza. Appointed FAO Representative in Brazil in January 2024, Mr Jorge Meza is from Ecuador and has a long history of working for the FAO throughout Latin America.
Among the topics covered during the visit was the launch of the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report, which in 2024 will take place at the Ministerial Meeting of the G20 Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty Task Force in July, and will be attended by the Executive Directors of WFP, FAO, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The Representatives also discussed preparations for World Food Day, which takes place annually on 16 October and involves the work of FAO and WFP, as well as IFAD and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA); and other common agendas between the two agencies.
