The WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger has a new channel to receive donations from individuals interested in supporting the fight against hunger. Through the website www.centreofexcellence.org.br, anyone with a credit card can donate the value of their preference and contribute to the strengthening of school feeding programmes in Brazil and in 30 other countries.
The most recent survey by the UN indicates that 821 million people are starving. Despite all the technological advances that mankind has achieved, the challenge of ensuring quality food for all has not yet been overcome. The world adopted the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 and, with them, set the goal of achieving Zero Hunger by 2030. School feeding is one of the most effective strategies to eliminate hunger.
School feeding is an intervention with multiple benefits. In addition to ensuring minimum nutrition for children and adolescents, it contributes to improving countries’ education indicators, strengthens smallholder farming, and generates work and income in rural areas.
Donations made to the WFP Centre of Excellence contribute to the improvement of school feeding programmes in partner countries. The Centre provides technical assistance to ensure the commitment of governments to the financing and implementation of these programmes. By providing continued support to 30 governments during 2018, the Centre contributed to strengthening school feeding programmes and benefited some 4 million children and thousands of smallholder farmers.
