First batch of donations from the Compra Solidária campaign reaches NGOs

The NGOs that are part of the Compra Solidária campaign, organized by the Carrefour Brazil Group, have already received the first batch of 6,000 food vouchers that will be distributed to around 50,000 families in 12 Brazilian states and the Federal District. The campaign is supported by the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger Brazil, which has been coordinating third sector organizations and private entities to increase the reach of donation campaigns to support families affected by the pandemic.

The NGOs that will carry out the distribution are Ação da Cidadania, Cáritas, Diaconia and Fundação Amazônia Sustentável (FAS). Depending on the location and logistical specificities, NGOs will distribute the cards directly to the population they serve or deliver pre-assembled food baskets. Beneficiaries will be able to use the cards at any store, as long as they are used to purchase essential products. The WFP also recommends that families buy fruit and vegetables, preferably from local retailers.
