On November 26, 2024, the “Seeds for Tomorrow” project held a donation ceremony in Brazzaville, delivering materials and equipment aimed at enhancing food and nutrition security in the Republic of Congo.
The project is a collaboration between the government of the Republic of Congo, the IBSA Fund (India, Brazil, and South Africa), and the World Food Programme (WFP). It focuses on sharing Brazil’s expertise in linking family farming to school feeding programs. The initiative seeks to identify effective practices to combat poverty and hunger, which can be replicated in other developing nations. In the Republic of Congo, WFP is facilitating this initiative, highlighting a shared commitment to addressing food and nutrition security challenges.
The ceremony, hosted at the WFP premises, included the donation of essential materials, such as transportation and irrigation equipment (tricycles, motorcycles, electric cables, motor pumps, hoses, and water cisterns), as well as school canteen equipment (pans, buckets, basins, cutlery, drums, hygiene equipment, and plastic meters and scales).
The event underscored the importance of South-South cooperation in the fight against hunger and poverty. Key attendees included representatives from the Congolese Ministries of Agriculture and Education, the WFP Country Director, the Brazilian Ambassador, and members of the project’s steering committee.
This donation ceremony also marked the conclusion of a series of workshops held in November 2024 in the departments of Pool, Plateaux, and Bouenza, which brought together school representatives, farmers, and government officials to strengthen local partnerships and ensure the success of the initiative.
