On Monday 26 February, the president of the Bandeirantes Group, João Carlos Saad, welcomed the president of the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE, in Portuguese), Fernanda Pacobahyba, and the Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Centre of Excellence against Hunger Brazil, Daniel Balaban, at the broadcaster’s headquarters in São Paulo. The meeting marked the start of the new edition of the reality show about the lives of school cooks, which is due to premiere in May this year.
During the visit, Fernanda Pacobahyba, Daniel Balaban, João Carlos Saad and executives from the broadcaster discussed the significant impact that the reality show intends to have not only on the Brazilian public, but also on the international stage. The importance of healthy eating in schools as a fundamental part of the teaching and learning process was also emphasised.
The reality show will be an innovative platform to highlight the essential work of these professionals in promoting adequate and healthy food in Brazilian schools. Through a friendly and educational competition, the programme seeks to mobilise the school community around food and nutrition education, reinforcing the guidelines of the National School Feeding Programme (PNAE, in Portuguese).
With the support of the WFP Centre of Excellence and in partnership with the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC, in Portuguese) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the programme will also strengthen South-South cooperation between Brazil and Portuguese-speaking African countries, promoting opportunities to exchange experiences.
“The most important thing about this reality is the chance to highlight a very successful public policy, which is the National School Feeding Programme. Before the competition between cooks, there is the recognition of their noble role in making the Brazilian PNAE a good example for many countries around the world,” said Daniel Balaban.
The programme will have 8 episodes and will be broadcast and promoted on Rede Bandeirantes television channels between May and June.
