Did you know that the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) purchased 4.4 million metric tons of food, valued at $2.4 billion in 2021? This represents a 34% increase in volume over 2020 and 84% more than in 2011. However, Brazil, as the fourth largest food producer in the world, contributed less than 0.3% of this amount.
In order to present modalities of food purchases to Brazilian suppliers, WFP will offer an online training on October 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Brasília time), in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). The schedule includes trends and numbers behind WFP’s food purchases; processes, criteria and conditions of purchase; and requirements to participate in these processes.
The training is free and will be conducted in Portuguese by WFP’s Food Procurement Department in Panama, with the support of the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil.
