The WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger participated in the WFP Global Meeting on South-South and Triangular Cooperation organized by the Policy and Programme Division. The event was a WFP internal meeting in Rome that brought together Regional Bureaux, Country Offices, WFP Centres of Excellence and other HQ divisions, including the School Feeding Division. The workshop aimed to take stock of existing initiatives, South-South and triangular cooperation (SSTC) mechanisms and priorities at regional and country level.
Participants developed a roadmap for WFP’s way forward on SSTC. They took part in discussions on strategic opportunities for the HQ to strengthen WFP Country Offices as SSTC facilitators with their host governments and to reinforce the overall engagement and coordination with WFP Centres of Excellence, including the one in Brazil. The event highlighted WFP’s options to deliver effectively in the field through a coordinated SSTC approach.
Daniel Balaban, director of the WFP Centre of Excellence in Brazil, said: “The governments appreciate the support Centres of Excellence provide because we do not impose anything, we are always open for conversation”. He also highlighted the role of WFP in the SSTC arena: “WFP is a South-South leader. We, as an organization, have a lot to share, a lot to showcase.”
The meeting was organized following the recent UN Day for South-South Cooperation, celebrated on 6 September with an event jointly organized with FAO and IFAD in Rome and hosted at WFP.
