The World Food Programme (WFP) Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, Fome de Tudo and the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger (MDS) will work together to encourage economic inclusion in the fight against food insecurity.
The actions should include the transfer of technology to prevent food waste. For the Director of the WFP Centre of Excellence in Brazil, Daniel Balaban, in order for the country and the planet to be free of food and nutritional insecurity, it is essential to tackle food waste. ”This technology developed by Fome de Tudo connects those who have too much with those who need it, which is exactly what the Brazil Without Hunger Plan seeks to achieve. Working together, we will soon celebrate a Brazil and a world free of hunger,” said Daniel after a meeting between Minister Welington Dias and his team, and the founder of the Fome de Tudo, Úrsula Corona.
The technology developed by Fome de Tudo focuses on eliminating waste and helping to restructure the food chain. “We work in a structured way involving the entire food industry as well as small producers, supporting family farming, co-operatives, food banks, solidarity kitchens, among other actors in the food chain, providing governance of the entire process for those who need to receive this food,” said Úrsula Corona.
MDS Minister Wellington Dias stressed that the initiative is in line with the social policies coordinated by the federal government to tackle poverty and hunger through the socio-economic inclusion and autonomy of those who need social programmes. “We can achieve this through technical training, especially in areas where there is a demand for labour. We can work together,” said the minister.
