Delegation of Mauritania meets with the WFP Centre of Excellence

On 25 July, the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger received a delegation from Mauritania, which was in Brazil for an experience-sharing mission organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The meeting with the WFP Centre of Excellence had the goal to present to the delegation work developed by the WFP Centre and the Brazilian initiatives on school feeding and food and nutritional security.

The purpose of the visit to Brazil was to enable the delegation to familiarize itself with the Brazilian experiences of regional governance and local economic development that could assist the process of Mauritania’s local economic development through South-South cooperation. The delegation’s expectation was to learn about Brazilian government experiences that could enrich the implementation of local economic development projects and programmes, strengthen local participation in development processes, and establish local platforms for continuous learning and innovation.

The mission to Brazil took place under the Programme of Support to Regional Governance and Local Economic Development in Mauritania, conducted by the government of Mauritania and UNDP. The WFP Centre of Excellence presented to the delegation its South-South cooperation initiatives, which have already supported more than 30 countries in developing school feeding strategies, policies, and programmes linked to local agriculture. The WFP Centre also shared the main innovative features of the National School Feeding Programme in Brazil.
