The e-book containing the experiences selected by the “Innovation Laboratory: Encouraging the production, availability, access and consumption of fruits and vegetables”, led by PAHO/WHO, is now available. The objective of the document is to identify, select and disseminate innovative experiences developed in Brazil that value and strengthen healthy and sustainable food systems. Thus, the document presents the results and recommendations to promote a healthy diet, with a careful look at all stages of the food system.
The experiences presented in the document can inspire similar initiatives in Latin American countries, which, despite having distinct contexts, present similar challenges in promoting health, food and nutrition through healthy and sustainable food systems. This information will contribute to countries, such as those supported by the Nurture the Future project, to take effective measures to achieve the goals of the United Nations Decade of Action on Nutrition.
The Brazilian activities for the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, in 2021, were organized by the Ministry of Health, through the General Coordination of Food and Nutrition, and by the National Cancer Institute, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the WFP Centre of Excellence Against Hunger. Actions also counted on the partnership and support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply; the Ministry of science, Technology and Innovation; of the Ministry of Citizenship; and the National Fund for Education Development.
