The Centre of Excellence against Hunger of WFP in Brazil is on a mission to Malawi to develop a master plan for the expansion of its Home-Grown School Feeding programme.
This initiative is focused on providing technical assistance and fostering collaboration between Brazil and Malawi to boost the nutritional intake of schoolchildren while stimulating local agriculture. By purchasing local produce and increasing the number of schools involved in the programme, the aim is to enrich students’ diets and support the local agricultural economy.
Programme Officer Maria Giulia Senesi trevelled to Malawi to better understand the local context, contribute to the mobilization and design of this plan and explore areas for cooperation between Brazil and Malawi.
She explains that, as Malawi seeks to expand the Home-Grown School Feeding initiative, it is very important to know the local reality, the areas of potential growth and the opportunities for improving the programme.
“Understanding the local reality ensures the programme’s long-term success, sustainability, and scalability, ultimately making a positive impact on educational outcomes and local economies,” Senesi explained.
