The exchange of experiences on specific aspects of the implementation of the school feeding programme and the provision of products from family farming in schools is the main objective of the technical visit of representatives from the Government of the Republic of Cameroon to Brazil, scheduled for 30 September to 4 October 2024.
The visit is organized by the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, in partnership with the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE) and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC).
The delegation will include representatives from the Government of the Republic of Cameroon, as well as from the Ministries of Basic Education, Agriculture and Rural Development, Finance, Planning and Regional Development, and International Relations.
The visit includes activities with various federal and district government bodies and aims to strengthen dialogue on the initiatives of both countries regarding school feeding policy and to identify areas for joint work in this field. The agenda includes meetings on the National School Feeding Programme (PNAE), the supply system, the cistern programme, as well as visits to cooperatives and schools.
“This is an opportunity to learn where the challenges lie and what relevant solutions exist for both countries,” said Vinicius Limogi, Head of Programmes at the WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, during a preparatory meeting for the visit.
For the representative of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Cameroon, Mr Oyono Adams Daniel, school feeding is essential to improving children’s access to education. “In our country, eight administrative areas are involved in the issue of school feeding. Our challenge in this area is scaling up. This technical visit to Brazil will provide us with suggestions on financing, social participation, strategic partnerships, and other matters to improve children’s access to school feeding. It is an important step towards expanding the possibilities for work in this area,” he said.
